Barlow Books is delighted to announce the start of a significant new book on Canadian business history. The Dollar a Year Men will tell the story of how, at the beginning of World War Two, Prime Minister Mackenzie King and his minister, C.D. Howe, resolved to help Britain win the war against Nazi Germany. Howe gathered together many of Canada’s leading businessmen and gave them the job of building the physical necessities of war – ships, planes, and supplies. In doing so, they transformed Canada’s economy from an agricultural one to a leading industrial force. They did this all for payment from the government of one dollar a year. This book will be written by writer Allan Levine, the Winnipeg-based author of King: William Lyon Mackenzie King: A Life Guided by the Hand of Destiny.

The Dollar a Year Men will be in stores in 2027.
