Frederick Lowy - barlowbooks

Dr. Frederick Lowy is a distinguished psychiatrist and leader in Canada’s medical system. He served as head of psychiatry and then dean of medicine at the University of Toronto. He later became President of Concordia University. Lowy was also the founding director of the Joint
Centre for Bioethics at the University of Toronto.

Appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2000 for his outstanding contributions to the medical and academic communities, Dr. Lowy’s leadership and scholarship have significantly advanced ethical decision-making and strengthened policies and practices related to complex
medical issues.Dr. Lowy lives in Toronto with his wife, psychoanalyst Mary Kay O’Neil. They have four children, nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild. His late wife, Anne, died in 1973.
